Men’s Volleyball Splits on Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, RI – On the day it honored its seniors, the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team also got the win it needed to wrap up the third seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Lasell 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20) after falling to Emmanuel by the same score (25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 18-25).

Of Note:
JWU is the third seed in the GNAC Tournament for the second year in a row. The Wildcats will host Emerson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

For the second time in three years, the Wildcats have won a school-record 20 matches.

With 12 digs against Emmanuel, senior Cameron Ponce became the program's all-time digs leader. Currently, he has 782 career digs.

Lasell came out firing in the opening set, hitting .419. JWU's defense tightened up as the Lasers would not hit above .100 the rest of the day and had a rate of .150 for the match. On the flipside, JWU got better on offensive, including a .700 rate in the third set for an overall mark of .365.

Defensively, JWU had a 46-36 advantage in digs and 11-7 blocking margin.

JWU started out strong against Emmanuel with a .419 hitting percentage in the first set, but that rate dropped as the match progressed. The Wildcats had an overall rate of .288 while allowing the Saints to hit .386.

Ponce just missed his third-straight double-double with 44 assists and nine digs in the nightcap. Against Emmanuel, he turned in a season-high 45 assists and 12 digs.

Leading the Wildcats' offense was outside hitters Jack Pincince and Sanjae Holloway. The rookie Pincince had 19 kills in the opener then 15 more versus the Lasers. Holloway started with 12 blocks against the Saints then had a match-high 16 against Lasell.
