PROVIDENCE, RI – The winning ways for the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team continued as the Wildcats opened their GNAC schedule on Wednesday. Johnson & Wales swept Regis College 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-16).
Regis: 1-4, 0-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 6-1, 1-0 GNAC
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start in set one and put the opening stanza away thanks to five-straight service points from Donovan Kelley. After the Pride pulled within 5-4 in the second set, Kelley and Sanjae Holloway keyed runs that gave the Wildcats a 10-point cushion (17-7).
Defensively, the Wildcats were too sound for the Pride as the visitors were limited to a .045 hitting percentage. Johnson & Wales recorded nine blocks and had a 30-19 advantage in digs.
The strong defense translated to Johnson & Wales hitting .500.
JWU setter Ben Sandt ran a balanced offense, handing out 31 assists with four different players recording five or more kills.
The Wildcats go on the road Saturday to take on Bard and Vassar.
