PROVIDENCE, RI – The winning ways for the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team continued as the Wildcats opened their GNAC schedule on Wednesday. Johnson & Wales swept Regis College 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-16).
Of Note: Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start in set one and put the opening stanza away thanks to five-straight service points from Donovan Kelley. After the Pride pulled within 5-4 in the second set, Kelley and Sanjae Holloway keyed runs that gave the Wildcats a 10-point cushion (17-7).
Defensively, the Wildcats were too sound for the Pride as the visitors were limited to a .045 hitting percentage. Johnson & Wales recorded nine blocks and had a 30-19 advantage in digs.
The strong defense translated to Johnson & Wales hitting .500.
JWU setter Ben Sandt ran a balanced offense, handing out 31 assists with four different players recording five or more kills.
Middle blocker Josh Pitzer had nine kills and six blocks. Holloway added eight kills while hitting .889 and Cameron Ponce added eight winners as well.
Up Next: The Wildcats go on the road Saturday to take on Bard and Vassar.
