BROOKLINE, Mass. – It was another impressive offensive performance on Saturday for the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team. The Wildcats went on the road to dominate Newbury College 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-14).
Johnson & Wales: 5-1
A service run by freshman Ben Sandt got the Wildcats off to a 7-2 lead in the first set. The Nighthawks hung in during the second set, but Johnson & Wales took control with an 8-2 run that included a kill and two aces by Donovan Kelley. Newbury closed to 16-12 in the third set, but rookie Paul Brodeur served five points as part of a 6-1 run to put the match away.
Johnson & Wales hit .415 while limiting the Nighthawks to .045. thanks to a 35-19 digs advantage.
The middle blockers were productive for the Wildcats as Josh Pitzer had a match-high nine kills and Kelley added five.
Sandt dished out a match-high 30 assists.
Johnson & Wales starts conference action Wednesday when it hosts Regis at 7 p.m.
