BOSTON, Mass. – For the second year in a row, the Johnson & Wales University men's volleyball team couldn't get past Wentworth in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament. The Wildcats lost a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) decision to the Leopards on Thursday.
Johnson & Wales ended the season with an 18-15 record. Wentworth improved to 22-10 and moves on to face Rivier in Saturday's championship match.
JWU was down 20-17 in the third set, but rallied to tie the game at 20-20 on a Dondre Crump ace. Unfortunately, the Leopards ended the match on a 5-1 run.
The Wildcats were limited to a .104 hitting percentage while the Leopards had a .354 rate. Wentworth also had a 32-20 advantage in digs to go along with a 6-1 margin for blocks.
Middle blocker Zach Turner had a team-best five kills. Four different players had four or more kills, including senior Matt LaVasseur who played in his final collegiate game.
Head coach Scott Reslow should have another contender in 2019 as he returns most of his starters.
