Men’s Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision to Start Spring Season

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The close matches didn't break the way the Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team needed to pick up a victory on Thursday. The Wildcats started the spring season by dropping a 6-3 decision at UMass Dartmouth.

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-2 while the Corsairs improved to 2-5.

UMD won the first two doubles matches, but Johnson & Wales staved off the sweep as Ryan Schiele and Gianni Rodriguez won the tiebreaker, 7-4, for the 9-8 victory.

Marco Saldierna tied the match at 2-2 with his 6-4, 6-2 win against John Fratus at number six singles. Alex Rohana's 7-6, 6-3 win at number four pulled JWU within 4-3. Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost the third set at number one and two to quell any chances of a comeback victory.

Johnson & Wales will try to get its first win of the year when it travels to Clark for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
