JWU Wraps Up Fall With 8-1 Win Over Seahawks

NEWPORT, RI – After a rough start to the fall season, the Johnson & Wales University men's tennis team ended the fall campaign on a high note. The Wildcats went on the road to take down Salve Regina, 8-1, on Sunday.

Johnson & Wales improved to 1-1 while the Seahawks fell to 1-1.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start by sweeping all three doubles points. Juniors Ryan Schiele (Lusby, Md.) and Jack Hopkins (Hamilton, Mass.) were the first ones off with their 8-1 win at number three. Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.) and Franz Fonk also produced an easy win, 8-2, at number two. Completing the sweep was the number one team of Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, NY) and Andre Barbero (Brielle, NJ) with an 8-4 triumph.

Fonk was one of four Wildcats to not drop a game during singles as he won 6-0, 6-0 over Zach Monaha at number three for the first singles win. Sophomore Tyler Dupee (Middletown, NY) wrapped up the team victory with his 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Kevin Hunt at number six.

Johnson & Wales is back on the courts on March 21 when it plays host to Curry.
