GREENWOOD, Ind. – Johnson & Wales men's soccer sophomore Nick Gutekunst (East Northport, N.Y.) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team announced Thursday morning.
The first men's soccer student-athlete in Johnson & Wales history to be selected to the academic all-district team, Gutekunst registered a season-high 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points. A two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week recipient, the Long Island native led the conference with eight assists, including six against GNAC opponents. Additionally, he connected on four game-winners this season, one in a 2-1 win over Emmanuel College on October 9.
The only player from the GNAC to be named to the team in 2019, Gutekunst is the 10th player overall to earn the honors.
Gutekunst and Johnson & Wales hosts defending champion Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the 2019 GNAC Championship match Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Seeking its conference-leading ninth championship, the Wildcats are looking for redemption after last year's 1-0 loss to the Monks in Standish, Maine.
With the all-district academic selection, Gutekunst is eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America award to be announced later this month.
