Wildcats Ground Seahawks on Sunday

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team hosted Salve Regina on Sunday for an afternoon contest that featured physicality and resistance, traits that define both clubs in the 2019 season.  JWU would come away victorious as a singular goal in the second half partnered with excellent defense secured the one nil decision.

Salve Regina: 5-3-2 (1-0-1 CCC)

Johnson & Wales: 7-2 (2-0 GNAC)

Statistical Leaders:

Erik Schneder (JWU) : 1 goal

Nick Gutekunst (JWU) : 1 assist

SRU: Seth Wolins (L, 2-1-2) 1 saves

JWU: Jacob Friedman (W, 2-0) 3 saves

Of Note:

The match was defined by tough play and stout defending as both teams would have opportunities while apt defensemen would cancel the ideas.

The Wildcats broke through in the second half as Nick Gutekunst fought through several defensemen to set up a cross that Erik Schneider headed into the back of the net.  The beautiful score came at the 52nd minute and would be the decider in the contest.

Both teams played virtually even with the corner opportunities tied at 5, and Salve Regina mustering one more shot over JWU, 6 to 5.

Next Game:

The Wildcats host conference rival Lasell College on Wednesday to start the month of October.
