PROVIDENCE, RI – Missed opportunities and stingy defense on both sides led to a 1-1 draw between the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team and the Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday. All three of JWU's games this year have gone into overtime.
Coast Guard: 0-1-2
Johnson & Wales: 2-0-1
Kasey Kureshi (JWU): 1 goal
Noa Pagatatan (CGA): 1 goal
CGA: Dakota Harich, 0-1-1; 5 saves
JWU: Nicholas Mancini, 2-0-1; 1 save
In the first overtime period, the Wildcats had their best chance to finish the night with a win when they were awarded a penalty kick. Unfortunately, Riley McNicholas' strike went high and glanced off the crossbar.
Johnson & Wales got on the board first in the 36th minute. Jason Cruz slotted a pass to Kasey Kureshi and he scored from 25 yards out. The goal was Kureshi's first on the year and also the first goal of his Wildcat career.
Coast Guard's Noa Pagatpatan scored the equalizer with a penalty kick goal after JWU committed a foul during a corner kick in the 53rd minute.
Johnson & Wales had a 17-7 advantage in shorts, including 6-2 on goal.
The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday when they open GNAC play against Regis College at 1 pm.
