PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team got their first goal, and first win, at the same time on Friday. Riley McNicholas pushed home the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Wildcats a 1–0 victory over Plymouth State in a non-conference contest.
Plymouth State: 0-1
Johnson & Wales: 1-0
The first goal of the season was the only goal needed for the Wildcats to get their first victory of 2018. In the 108th minute, McNicholas' shot was deflected out of bounds, leading to a JWU corner kick. Freshman JP Rioux served the corner kick into the box and McNicholas headed by Plymouth State keeper Linus Lindeberg for the game-winning goal.
The Panthers had an opportunity to end the match in the first overtime when Milian Eklund's breakaway shot caromed off the crossbar.
JWU had a 17-7 advantage in shots and took 12 corner kicks, compared to three by the visitors.
The Wildcats are back on the field Sunday when they host Wheaton for a 6 p.m. contest.
