NEWTON, Mass. – A pair of goals from sophomore Erik Schneider and a stringy defense was a recipe for victory by the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team Wednesday night. The Wildcats went on the road to defeat Mount Ida, 2-0.
Mount Ida: 7-4, 4-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 9-1-1, 4-1-1 GNAC
With the victory, Johnson & Wales improved its unbeaten streak to eight matches. During that time, the Wildcats have only surrendered three goals.
In the 18th minute, Schneider (Plantsville, Conn.) got a through ball and chipped it over the MIC goalkeeper for his first goal of the season. He added an insurance goal five minutes into the second half when he scored off the crossing pass from Yohann Assouramou (Cotonou, Benin).
Johnson & Wales limited the Mustangs to nine shots, but only three on goal, which were all stopped by JWU keeper Nicholas Mancini (Toms River, N.J.). The Wildcats took 18 shots with nine on goal.
Johnson & Wales is on the road Saturday when it goes to Elms for a 4:30 p.m. start.
