JWU Falls 2-0 at Norwich in GNAC Semis

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Winning three championships in a row was quite a feat for the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team. The pursuit of a fourth title was stopped Tuesday night as the Wildcats dropped a 2-0 decision at Norwich in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament.

The loss ends the Wildcats' season at 11-5-4. The Cadets advance to Saturday's final at St. Joseph's (ME) with a 12-4-3 mark.

After a scoreless first half, Norwich broke through for a goal just 17 seconds into the second half. The Cadets added another goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

Johnson & Wales had its opportunities to score, out-shooting Norwich 28-10. Cadet goalie Billy Whaley was the difference maker as he stopped all 10 shots he faced. Sophomore midfielder Teagan Drake (Waterbury, Vt.) had a team-high seven shots for JWU, including four on goal.

The Wildcats lose five seniors off this year's team, including three-time All-GNAC selection Xavier Carty (Mt. Vernon, NY) and starting goalkeeper Jon Robbins (Berkeley Heights, NJ).
