PROVIDENCE, RI – Despite having more than double the amount of shots on goal Tuesday afternoon, the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team could not get past crosstown rival Rhode Island College. The Wildcats fell 1-0 to Anchormen.
The loss was JWU's first non-conference defeat in a month as the Wildcats' record dropped to 10-4-4. The Anchormen improved to 13-3-1.
RIC scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute when Cooper Ferreira scored from five yards out off the crossing pass from Yemi Matthew. The Anchormen would only get three shots on goal the rest of the day with JWU goalie Jon Robbins (Berkley Heights, NJ) turning away all three.
Johnson & Wales had a 16-12 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 margin for shots on goal. Xavier Carty (Mt. Vernon, NY) had a team-high three shots on goal.
The Wildcats start the GNAC Tournament on Saturday when they play host to Emmanuel at 1 p.m.
