JWU Falls 1-0 To Albertus Magnus
PROVIDENCE, RI – One goal has been the difference the last two times the Johnson & Wales University and Albertus Magnus men's soccer teams have met on the pitch. The Wildcats won last year in the GNAC Championship game, but the Falcons got the better of JWU on Saturday as the visitors came away with a 1-0 triumph.
Albertus Magnus: 8-5-1, 3-3-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 8-3-4, 4-2-1 GNAC
Matt Mueller (AMC): 1 Goal
Joe Russo (AMC): 6 Saves
Jon Robbins (JWU): 2 Saves
The two teams were evenly matched in the first half with JWU out-shooting Albertus Magnus, 5-4, but neither team could break through for the first goal. Just 2:25 into the second half, the Falcons' Matt Mueller took a pass from Brayan Lucero and scored for the only goal of the game.
Johnson & Wales had plenty of opportunities to score in the second half, recording 13 shots, compared to just four for Albertus Magnus, but JWU couldn't find the back of the net. AMC keeper Joe Russo turned away six shots to get the victory. Rob Zukofsky (Scotch Plains, NJ) had a team-high five shots for the Wildcats.
Johnson & Wales is back for its final home match of the regular season when it plays host to Emmanuel on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
