NEWTON, Mass. – For the second game in a row, the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team had the offense firing on all cylinders. The Wildcats got two goals in the first half and two more in the second to defeat Lasell, 4-0, on Monday.
Johnson & Wales: 8-2-4, 4-1-1 GNAC
Lasell: 1-2, 0-7 GNAC
A five minute span in the first half gave the Wildcats all the offense they would need. A deflected ball in the box went right to Andrew Vecere (Wayne, NJ) and he deposited it in the goal for the first score in the 16th minute. Less than five minutes later, Jason Cruz (Providence, RI) set up Teagan Drake (Waterbury, Vt.) and he scored from the top of the box to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats added a pair of insurance in goals within 19 seconds of each other in the second half. Cruz set up Riley McNicholas (Hopkinton, NH) with a crossing pass at the 50:15 mark then Yohann Assouramou (Cotonou, Benin) scored on a breakaway goal to cap the scoring. The goal was the first of McNicholas' collegiate career and gave Cruz his first two-assist game as a Wildcat.
Johnson & Wales spent most of the afternoon in the Lasers' end, holding a 28-10 advantage in shots. JWU goalkeeper Jon Robbins (Berkley Heights, NJ) came on in the 15th minute and made four saves to collect his fifth victory and give the Wildcats their fifth shutout of the season.
The Wildcats are off until Saturday when they play host to Albertus Magnus at 2:30 p.m.
