NEW LONDON, Conn. – On the road for the first time this season, the Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team could not find its rhythm offensively. The Wildcats dropped a 1-0 decision at the Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday.
Johnson & Wales: 2-1
Coast Guard: 2-0
Even though goalkeeper Nicholas Mancini (Toms Rivier, NJ) only gave up goal at the 54:29 mark of the second half, his offense could not back him up. The junior transfer from Sienna College made 11 saves on the night. The Bears out-shot the Wildcats 17-11 and 11-1 for shots on goal.
Johnson & Wales' lone shot on goal didn't come until the 86th minute of play. Yohann Assouramou (Cotonou, Benin) had the best chance at a goal when he ripped a shot, but it was turned away by CGA goalie Jake Sorenson. Sophomore Teagan Drake (Waterbury, Vt.) had a team-high three shots.
The Wildcats return home for back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday, starting with their GNAC opener against Rivier at 1 p.m.
