PROVIDENCE, RI - The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team fell to the Rivier University Raiders on Saturday afternoon, 14-11. The Raiders outscored the Wildcats, 9-3, in the first quarter on their way to victory.
Rivier: 7-2, GNAC 2-2
Johnson & Wales: 2-10, GNAC 1-4
Raiders started the game by scoring two goals in the first 62 seconds of the first quarter. The Wildcats sandwiched two goals in the 1st quarter out of the crosses of Thomas Lyons and Brad Kretz.
JWU scored four unanswered goals – including the only three scores of the second quarter - dating back to the last 46 seconds of the first quarter to pull within 9-6 at the half. Ben Farrell had three points in the quarter with one goal and two assists.
The two teams were even in the second half at five goals apiece. Matt Gelb factored in four goals with three assists and a score.
Colby Larsen led the Raiders with five goals and added three assists.
Johnson & Wales is on the road Tuesday to take on Albertus Magnus College at 7 pm.
