Offensive Breakout Secures Wildcats’ First GNAC Victory

BOSTON - The Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team got its first conference victory over the Emmanuel College Saints on Saturday afternoon, 15-11. The Wildcats outscored the Saints, 6-2, in the third quarter which proved to be the difference.

Johnson & Wales: 2-8, 1-3 GNAC

Of Note:
The Wildcats and Saints traded goals to start the game and were tied 2-2 after one quarter. Thomas Lyons and Tyler Drago were the goal scorers for JWU.

Ben Ferrell and Lyons got the scoring started in the second. Erik Lindaas added another goal to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead with 4:57 left before half. Emmanuel scored twice in the last 58 seconds to tie if before halftime, 5-5.

A fast paced third quarter saw the Wildcats score four-straight goals to start the period. Brad Kretz completed his hat-trick within the 15 minutes, including back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 11-7. 

Jacob deMay started the fourth quarter with a man-up goal that proved to be the game-winner. Lyons added two more goals to bring his season total to 20, tying him for the team lead.

Freshman Kyle Mangan secured his first collegiate victory with 17 saves in-between the pipes.
