Late Offensive Push Leads Wildcats to Victory

PROVIDENCE, RI. - A defensive battle led the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team to a 7-5 win over Emerson College Thursday night. The Wildcats secured their first victory of the season by playing stellar defense for the full 60 minutes.

Of Note:

Both goalkeepers were on showcase in the first quarter as Johnson & Wales outshot Emerson, 15-7. Thomas Lyons scored the lone goal at 10:23.  

 

Erik Lindaas got the scoring started in the second with a goal at the 12:37 mark. The Wildcats added two more goals from Matt Gelb and Brad Kretz to go into the locker room up 4-2.

 

The Lions got a pair of goals from Austin Franklin and Jared Bush after the halftime break to tie the contest at 4-4.

 

Ben Farrell scored with 89 seconds left in the third quarter than again at the 5:34 mark of the fourth to complete a 3-0 JWU run that was the difference in the game.

 

JWU's Bradley Morris stood strong all game with a season high 18 saves. Brad Kretz had a goal and an assist in his first appearance this season for head coach Nick Coppola.

 

The Wildcats had a 44-34 advantage in shots.
