PROVIDENCE, RI --- New England College scored five goals in the fourth quarter to defeat the Johnson & Wales University men's lacrosse team on Thursday. The Pilgrims topped the Wildcats, 9-4.
New England College: 2-4

Matt Richard (NEC): 3 goals, 4 assists
Charles Hacking (NEC): 4 goals
Sam Sears got JWU on the board with a goal at the 12:15 mark. The Pilgrims came back with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats used a late flurry of third-period goals to tie the game at 4-4. Brad Kretz, Erik Lindaas and Ben Farrell all tallied goals during the run. Farrell was the only Wildcat to score more than one point as he added an assist.
New England College responded in the fourth quarter, scoring four times in the first five minutes for the 8-4 advantage. Charles Hacking scored three of his game-high four goals during that stretch. Matt Richard led all players with seven points (three goals, four assists).
Johnson & Wales had a 36-27 advantage in shots, but NEC goalie William Platt made 19 saves. The Pilgrims' faceoff victories set up their offense. NEC won 12 of 17 faceoffs, including 5 of 6 in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats open conference action Wednesday when they travel to Anna Maria for a 5 p.m. contest.
