Men’s Lacrosse Notches 13-12 Win Over Albertus Magnus

Sophomore Tyler Thompson (West Chester, N.Y.) scored five goals and added an assist to lead the men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 13-12 victory over Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Ahtletics Complex.

Freshman Brian Hillenbrand (Portsmouth, R.I.) and TJ Consiglio (New Fairfield, Conn.) each had three goals and an assist in the win for Johnson & Wales.  Sophomore Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) had three goals apiece in the setback for Albertus Magnus.

Johnson & Wales struck first when an unassisted goal by Hillenbrand just :48 second into the game made the score 1-0.  Albertus responded, however and scored five of the next six goals of the contest to take the 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.  JWU rallied in the second stanza and used Hillenbrand's third goal of the game to take the 6-5 lead with 8:12 left in the half.  Moore then scored with just under five minutes left in the first half to send the game into halftime knotted at 6-6.

The Wildcats led 9-7 early in the third period after Thompson's second goal of the game.  Again, the visiting Falcons responded and took the 10-9 advantage with 2:26 remaining in the third quarter.  The game was tied 11-11 with just over ten minutes left in regulation.  Thompson's fifth goal of the evening, an unassisted goal put the Wildcats up 12-11 and Consiglio tallied what would prove to be the game-winning goal when hos shot at the 3:48 mark found the beck of the net to put JWU up 13-11.  Freshman Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) helped Albertus Magnus cut the lead to just one with a goal with 1:44 left.  I wouldn't be enough, however as the Wildcats held on for the 13-12 victory.

Junior Jack Pettine (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied 14 saves in the win in new for JWU while sophomore Brandon Scicchitano (Norwalk, Conn.) had 14 stops in the loss for the Falcons.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 3-12 on the year and 1-8 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus drops to 3-9 for the season and 2-9 in league play.
