PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Fifth-ranked Hobart College was too much for the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team on Saturday. The Statesmen scored five times in the third period to squash any hopes of a JWU comeback on their way to a 10-3 victory.

Hobart scored in the beginning and end of the first period. Dan Sliney got the scoring started with a slap shot then Zach Tyson added a goal with two minutes remaining.
JWU got on the scoreboard midway through the second period when Matt Bernot centered a pass from the corner to Austin Withycombe and he one-timed it into the net. Bernot has scored a point in seven of his last nine games.
Anthony Scarcella cut the lead to 5-2 when he chipped the puck over Hobart goalie Liam Lascella with just two minutes left in the second frame.
The Statesmen squashed any hopes of a JWU comeback by scoring two more goals to push the lead to 7-2.
Junior Tal Finberg got the first goal of his collegiate career at the 8:16 mark of the third period when he got the pass out of the corner from Withycombe and buried in the back of the net.
JWU has a home-at-home series with Suffolk next week, starting with Friday's 4 p.m. game at the Rams.
