Men’s Ice Hockey Takes Down Ravens 5-3

WINCHENDON, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team started 2020 the same way it finished 2019: with a victory. The Wildcats went on the road Sunday to beat NCAA Division II opponent Franklin Pierce University, 5-3.

Franklin Pierce: 8-5-1
Johnson & Wales: 3-8

JWU: Mike Rockwell Jr. (W, 3-6) 42 Saves

Austin Withycombe (JWU): 2 Assists

Of Note:
JWU got the first goal halfway through the opening period when Kodi Legassie tied for the team lead with his fourth goal of the year. The rookie stole the puck at the blue line and put back the rebound of his own shot.

After the Ravens tied the game on the power play, the Wildcats took advantage of their own man advantage with 73 seconds left in the period. Connor Bechtel tracked down the rebound of Jake Glod's shot and fed it to Anthony Scarcella, who scored a goal for the second game in a row.

Franklin Pierce pulled even just two minutes into the second period, but JWU answered a minute later. During a scrum in front of the net, the puck came out to Logan Orem and buried it in the back of the net.

Just 75 seconds into the third period, the Wildcats got the eventual game-winner. Matt Bernot scored his second point of the night when he took the pass from Austin Withycombe and his wrist shot beat Kyle Martin.

JWU goalie Mike Rockwell Jr. kept the Wildcats in the game, making 42 saves.
