Men's Ice Hockey Falls to UMass Boston

BOSTON – The Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team took on perennial New England Hockey Conference contender UMass Boston Saturday.  The Wildcats had the lead after the first period but couldn't hold back the Beacons as they lost a 10-1 decision.

The set-back has the Wildcats at 1-8, 0-6 in the NEHC. The Beacons now stand at 5-4-1 and 3-2-1 in conference.

Matt Bernot scored midway through the first period with the assist from Peter Costa. Goalie Mike Camasso (L, 0-1) made 17 saves to give the Wildcats the first-period lead.

Unfortunately, the Beacons came alive in the second period. Four of UMB's 10 goals came on special teams with three power play scores and one short-handed tally.

The Beacons had the 52-16 shot advantage with UMass Boston's Bailey MacBurnie (W, 1-3) making every save after Bernot's goal.

The Wildcats return home to Lynch Arena Friday to host Anna Maria for a 7 pm puck drop.
