WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team traveled to Westfield State for an evening of non-conference hockey on Tuesday. The Owls defended their home nest with a 6-2 victory by keeping the Wildcats at arm's length the entire night.

Westfield State did most of its work early as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Jake Ratcliffe scored two of his hat trick, the first of his career, during the opening period. He opened the scoring in the 15th minute while the second goal came on a power play with 36 seconds left in the period.
Westfield dashed any hopes of a Johnson & Wales comeback with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period. JWU's Matt Bernot added a late goal, his second of the season.
The Owls outshot the Wildcats, 44-34.
The Wildcats return to their home ice at Lynch Arena on December 1st hosting Western New England at 4 p.m.
