Rams Rally Past Wildcats 8-6

PAWTUCKET, RI – A high number of penalties by the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team and Suffolk University created an abundance of scoring opportunities. The Rams scored five times in the third period to beat the Wildcats, 8-6, on Saturday.

Suffolk: 7-9, 4-6 NEHC
Johnson & Wales: 3-12-2, 1-7-1 NEHC

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales spotted the Rams two first-period goals before scoring three-times thanks to a major penalty.

Connor Bechtel got the first goal off the rebound of Craig Hessenius' shot. Thirty seconds into the second period Hessenius got a goal of his own. An Anthony Scarcella goal put JWU up 3-2.

The Wildcats extended the lead when Trevor Momot scored his first collegiate goal then Conor Cassidy lit the lamp to stake JWU to a 5-3 lead with 6:03 left in the second period.

Unfortunately, the Rams scored four times in the first seven minutes of the third period to retake the lead, 7-5.

Mike Rodriguez cut the lead to 7-6 with his score at the 15:35 mark, but Suffolk secured the victory with an empty-net goal in the final 30 seconds.

The game was marred by a combined 33 penalties. JWU went 3-for-7 with the extra attacker while the Rams were 2-for-7.
