MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team's valiant attempt at an upset came up just short on Sunday. The Wildcats dropped a 4-3 decision to 11th-ranked University of New England in the consolation game of the Middlebury Holiday Classic.

Johnson & Wales spotted the Nor'Easters three goals before getting on the board in the third period.
Conor Cassidy scored a point for the second game in a row - and the fourth time in his last five contests - when he beat UNE goalie Tate Sproxton just 65 seconds into the final period.
The Nor'Easters went back up 4-1, but the Wildcats didn't relent. Connor Bechtel scored JWU's second short-handed goal in as many games to cut the lead to 4-2.
Graham Day scored a power play goal with 47 seconds left in the game, but the Wildcats could not get the equalizer with the goalie pulled.
UNE had a decisive 51-21 advantage in shots, but goaltender Joe Noonan – who started his first game between the pipes for the Wildcats – made 47 saves.
JWU plays its final non-conference game of the year on January 5 when it travels to Stonehill for a 5:10 p.m. faceoff.
