MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Back on the ice for the first time in three weeks, the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team traveled north for the Middlebury Holiday Classic. A late goal gave the host Panthers the slim 3-2 victory on Saturday.
The Wildcats conclude the Middlebury Holiday Classic Sunday when they face either #11 Hobart or #15 University of New England in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
Middlebury got on the board with a goal in the first period, but the Wildcats answered within the first two minutes of the second period. Bryan Colburn put back the rebound of Conor Cassidy's shot for his second goal of the season.
Down a goal and a skater early in the third period, Stephen Rocchio picked the puck up in his own zone, raced up the ice and fired a shot through MC goalie Adam Wisco to tie the contest just 1:51 into the stanza.
Owen Powers scored the game-winner for the Panthers off the rebound with just 2:45 left in the game.
The host had a 39-30 advantage in shots and went 0-for-1 on the only power play of the game.
