PROVIDENCE, RI – After playing their season opener on the road Saturday, the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team plays its home opener Tuesday. The Wildcats will take on Westfield State at 2:55 p.m. at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.
The third season under head coach James LaCour also marks the start of a new conference for the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales is the newest member of the New England Hockey Conference.
LaCour brings back his top five goal scorers from the 2017-18 campaign. Forward Ryan Sete returns for his senior year after scoring a career-high 11 goals. Victor Carlsson also had career-highs of eight goals and nine assists in 2017-18.
JWU's defense was young in 2017-18, but all that ice time should pay off this season. Sophomore Jordon Stone saw the ice in 23 games while classmate Craig Hessenius appeared in 20. Kevin McDonald and Mike Rodriguez should also see more ice time this year.
The Wildcats were picked to finish tenth in the preseason coaches' poll. Fifth-ranked Hobart garnered seven of the 10 first-place votes to finish just ahead of Norwich.
NEHC play begins on November 9 with a two-day trip to Southern Maine and New England College.
