PORTSMOUTH, RI – Seventh-ranked Salve Regina scored late in the second period then added five third-period goals to defeat the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team on Friday. The Seahawks defeated the Wildcats, 9-2.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 5-17, 3-12 in the CCC while the Seahawks improved to 11-2-2 in the conference, 16-4-2 overall.
Victor Carlsson scored at the 13:44 mark of the first period to pull the Wildcats within 2-1. He added a second power play goal with two minutes left in the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2. Ryan Sete assisted on both of Carlsson's goals.
Unfortunately, Frankie Sullivan found the back of the net with 33 seconds left in the period. Salve Regina dashed any hopes of a JWU comeback with five goals in the third period.
The two teams are back on the ice Saturday when the Wildcats welcome the Seahawks to Lynch Arena at 7:05 p.m.
