WORCESTER, Mass. – A three-goal lead was more than the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team could overcome on Tuesday. The Wildcats dropped a 3-1 decision against Division II opponent Assumption.
Assumption improved to 2-5-1 while the Wildcats fell to 3-5
JWU was only down two goals after the second period, but allowed the Greyhounds to tally a third goal just 58 seconds into the third period. Johnson & Wales got on the board at the 2:06 mark when Mike Rodriguez (Bronxville, NY) scored his first goal as a Wildcat. Jason Recchia (Shelby Township, Mich.) and Nicholas Pezza (Smithfield, RI) provided the assists.
The puck was in the Wildcats' zone for most of the night as Assumption had a 55-35 advantage in shots. JWU goalie Mike Rockwell (Poughquag, N.Y.) made a season-high 52 saves.
Johnson & Wales is back in action on Friday when it takes on Utica at 7 p.m.
