WORCESTER, Mass. – A three-goal deficit was too much for the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team to overcome. The Wildcats lost their season opener, 3-1, at Worcester State on Friday.
The Lancers picked up the first goal at the 3:10 mark of the first period then added another at nearly the identical point in the second period. Worcester State had a 28-22 advantage in shots.
Halfway through the third period, the Wildcats got on the board. Rookie Craig Hessenius (Brookfield, Conn.) scored the first goal of his collegiate career with assists from fellow rookie Connor Bechtel (Doylestown, Pa.) and Tristan Goodwin (East Haven, Conn.).
Johnson & Wales returns to the ice on November 3 when it travels to the University of New England for the CCC season opener.
