BEVERLY, Mass. – A three-goal deficit was too much for the Johnson & Wales University men's ice hockey team to overcome. The Wildcats scored two third-period goals, but dropped a 5-2 decision at Endicott.
The Gulls improved to 15-3-2, 9-3-1 in the CCC while the Wildcats dropped to 8-10-2 overall and 4-8-1 in the league.
After the hosts scored a minute into the third period, the Wildcats got on the board when Logan Fortier (Newport, Vt.) found the back of the net with assists from Victor Carlsson (Calmar, Sweden) and Connor Bates (Laconia, NH). Endicott pushed the lead back to three goals before Kevin McDonald (Ashburn, Va.) scored the first goal of his collegiate career.
The Gulls had a 34-26 advantage in shots as JWU goalie Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 29 saves. The power play was the difference as Endicott was 4-5 with the extra skater while JWU went 0-5 with the man advantage.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday when they play host to the University of New England at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, JWU will recognize the nine seniors on this year's team.
