Sophomore JP Larmoyeux (West Palm Beach, Fla.) scored his first collegiate goal, the game-winner, to lift the Johnson & Wales University men's hockey team to a 3-1 victory against Curry at Max Ulin Rink on Thursday evening. The win gives the Wildcats the regular season series sweep over Curry for the first time in school history as JWU posted a 3-1 win over the Colonels on November 15th at Lynch Arena.
After back and forth action throughout the first period, Curry got on the board first when Shane Harrington scored with just one second left on the power play and seven seconds left in the period to put Curry up 1-0 after one period of play.
Johnson & Wales struck with a pair of goals less than a minute apart to open the second period. Sophomore Drew Kariofiles (Cincinnati, Ohio) put in a pass from freshman Alan Boozer (Detroit, Mich.) and senior Jason Healey (Goshen, N.Y.) just 1:12 into the period. Larmoyeux then provided the heroics for the Wildcats, connecting for his first collegiate goal at the 1:54 mark with an assist to senior Alex Porrier (Rutland, Vt.) to make the score 2-1. The Wildcats took the one goal lead heading into the locker room after two periods of play.
An empty netter by sophomore Ben Brouillard (Somerset, Mass.) with twenty seconds left on the clock provided an insurance goal for the Wildcats as the team took the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 39 saves in the victory for Johnson & Wales while Brett Sinclair notched 23 stops in the loss for Curry.
With the win, JWU is now to 13-8-1 and 7-4-0 in ECAC Northeast play while Curry falls to 9-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in conference action. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, February 14th when they host Western New England for an ECAC Northeast contest at Lynch Arena at 4:45 p.m. The senior class of 2015 will be honored at a ceremony prior to the contest.
