NORMAN, Okla. – The Johnson & Wales University men's golf team has had a number of accomplishments over the years, but an all-region selection was not one of them until this year. Sophomore Claudio Soukamneuth was named a Division III PING All-Northeast selection as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Cranston, RI, Soukamneuth led the Wildcats with a 76.06 strokes per round average. The only GNAC player named to the list, he just missed the individual cut at the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row.
Twice this year, Soukamneuth picked up GNAC Player of the Week accolades. He earned All-GNAC honors by finishing second at the conference championship.
Johnson & Wales finished 35th at the NCAA Championships. JWU should be poised for another trip to the NCAA Championships in 2020 as head coach Lou Parente does not have a senior on his roster.
