SUTTON, Mass. – For the second year in a row, the Johnson & Wales University men's golf team ran away with the GNAC Championship in the final 18 holes. The Wildcats won their sixth conference championship with a winning score of 619 at the Blackstone National Golf Course.
JWU earns the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Championships, May 14-17 in Nicholasville, KY.
Johnson & Wales backed up its opening round 308 with a 311 on Sunday. The Wildcats were 13 strokes better than second-place UMass Dartmouth.
Four Wildcats earned All-GNAC honors by finishing in the top five. Leading the way was sophomore Claudio Soukamneuth in second place at 152 (76-76). Two spots back was junior Alex Parente with a 155 (77-78).
Junior Mac Patch and sophomore Ryan Malloy and each tied for fifth at 157. Patch was three strokes better on Sunday with rounds of 80 and 77. Malloy carded an 80 after a 77 on Saturday. Sophomore Matt Daley shot an 81 on Sunday but was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard
Johnson & Wales wraps up the fall campaign next week when it travels to the NEIGA Championship, Oct. 21-22, at the Captains Golf Course.
