Men’s Golf In Seventh After Day One of Duke Nelson

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The 2017-18 men's golf season started with a bang for Johnson & Wales. The Wildcats fired their best round in nearly three years and sit in seventh place after day one of the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

The Wildcats carded an opening round 298. It's their best round since firing a 295 in the final round of the 2014 GNAC Championship. JWU is just one stroke back of St. Lawrence and two behind Tufts. Williams leads with an opening round 287.

Leading the way was sophomore Alex Parente (North Kingstown, RI) as he posted a career-low round of 72 that has him in 12th place after day one. Fellow sophomore Christian Maselli (Exeter, R.I.) also had his best round as a Wildcat. His 75 has him tied for 33rd.

Newcomer Adam Ely (Essex, Vt.) started his collegiate career with a 74 to tie for 26th. Fellow rookie Ryan Malloy carded a 77 and Matt Daley (Duxbury, Mass.) posted an 82 in his collegiate debut.

JWU is back on the course Sunday for the final 18 holes.
