WINTHROP, Mass. – While he's had several good performances during the early part of the season, it was only a matter of time before Johnson & Wales University men's basketball student-athlete Brian Hogan-Gary had a breakout performance. His second 30-point game in a row earned him GNAC Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the Wildcats' first honor of the year and the sixth for the Staten Island, N.Y. native. Taelon Martin from the University of St. Joseph was named Rookie of the Week.
Last week in the win against crosstown rival Rhode Island College, Hogan-Gary scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his third double-double in a row and his seventh of the season. He's one of two players in the GNAC averaging a double-double and leads the league at 23.2 points per game, which puts him 24th in the NCAA. Last year's GNAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, he's also top five in assists and steals.
Johnson & Wales will take some time off for the holiday break and return in 2020 when it travels to Division I Brown University on January 7.
