Wildcats Hang on to Beat Saints 75-71

BOSTON – Needing a win to secure a first-round home game in next week's GNAC Tournament, the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team took care of business. The Wildcats went on the road to defeat Emmanuel College, 75-71, on Saturday.

Of Note:
The win gave the Wildcats the number three seed in the tournament. They will host sixth-seed Saint Joseph's (Me.) at 7 p.m.

Johnson & Wales took the lead in the opening minute and never trailed the entire afternoon.

The lead grew to as many as 61-47 midway through the second half on a Donovian Maxfield three-pointer. The Saints worked the deficit down to five points, but Brian Hogan-Gary made three free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

JWU was sharp from behind the arc, shooting 41.7 percent (10-of-24) while limiting EC to just 4-of-24.

Notching his sixth-straight double-double was Hogan-Gary with game-highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Randall Ferdinand was next with 18 points while Maxfield and Matt Madoian added a dozen each.

Up Next:
Johnson & Wales will try to avenge one of its three GNAC losses on Tuesday. The Monks defeated the Wildcats, 102-94, on January 19.
