WINTHROP, Mass. – In the span of 48 hours, Johnson & Wales University men's basketball student-athlete Brian Hogan-Gary nailed a buzzer-beater in overtime then scored the 1,000th-point of his collegiate career. Those extraordinary performances earned him GNAC Player of the Week by the league office.
The Staten Island, NY native earned his fourth award of the year. Chris Childs from Saint Joseph (Conn.) was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
In a 2-0 week, Hogan-Gary averaged 33.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals while shooting 54.5 percent. He started the week with 31 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in a 98-97 double OT win at Saint Joseph. In the victory, he hit a buzzer beater with 0.6 seconds left in the first OT to send it into the second OT.
Then on Saturday, in a 90-58 home win over Lasell, he shot an impressive 16-of-22 for a career-high 36 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career in just his 51st game. He also had 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals as he collected his 13th double-double of the season.
Johnson & Wales plays its final regular season home game Saturday when it hosts Anna Maria at 3 p.m. on Senior Day.
