PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team made the short trip across town to take on Division I Brown University Monday night. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't hang with the Bears as they defeated Johnson & Wales 100-61.
Johnson & Wales couldn't slow down the Bears offensively as they shot 64.5 percent (20-of-31) in the first half. Brown shot 59.3 percent for the game while limiting the Wildcats to 34.3 percent.
Midway through the first half, the Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to cut the Brown lead to 24-31 on a Donovian Maxfield three-pointer. Unfortunately, Brown responded with a 26-9 run to take a 57-33 advantage into the half.
There was a major discrepancy at the free throw line where the Bears shot 22-of-33 compared to just 3-of-3 by the Wildcats. Brown also had a 46-31 rebounding advantage.
Topping the box score was senior Matt Madoian as he scored a season-high 29 points. Brian Hogan-Gary had his run of 20-point games stopped at five, but he did produce his ninth double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Wildcats get back into GNAC action Thursday when they travel to Rivier for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
