PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team raced out to an early lead and didn't look back in its GNAC opener Tuesday night. The Wildcats downed Norwich, 79-42.

Brian Hogan-Gary (JWU): 27 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals
Matt Madoian (JWU): 14 points, 7 rebounds
Donovan Lewis (NOR) 11 points, 7 rebounds
Defensively the Wildcats were stifling the first 10 minutes of the opening half as they limited the Cadets to just five points. Norwich went seven minutes without a basket as the Wildcats established a 30-5 lead before going into the half up 48-21.
Johnson & Wales forced Norwich into 23 turnovers – including 17 in the first half – and converted that into 31 points. JWU limited the Cadets to 31.8 shooting while hitting at a rate of 43.1
The Wildcats had three players in double figures, led by 27 from Brian Hogan-Gary. He pulled in 13 rebounds for his third double-double in a row. Matt Madoian and Justin Bullock were next with 14 points.
More than half of the Cadets' points came from Donovan Lewis and Daniel Haimes as they each scored 11 points.
Johnson & Wales is back at home on Thursday to take on Colby-Sawyer at 7:30 p.m.
