CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – An offensive drought in the final three minutes doomed the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team on Sunday in the championship game of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament, hosted by DeSales University. The Wildcats dropped a 91-78 decision to the host Bulldogs.
Back-to-back baskets by Brian Hogan-Gary made it a 76-76 contest with 3:29 to play. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would only score two more points the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs hit consecutive three-pointers to open an 83-76 lead then canned six free throws to seal the victory. DeSales was 23-of-29 from the line, including 16-18 in the second half.
The hosts also shot 55.8 percent with a 57.1 percent rate in the final 20 minutes.
Hogan-Gary – who was named to the all-tournament team - turned in his sixth double-double of the year with 29 points and 10 rebounds. He was one of four Wildcats in double figures as Donovian Maxfield and Danny Ampofo had 14 points and Matt Madoian chipped in 12.
Johnson & Wales goes on the road January 4 to take on Division I opponent Cornell at 7 p.m.
