NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Because of winter storms, the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team had to face Norwich twice in 48 hours. The results were nearly identical as the Wildcats thumped the Cadets for the second time, 81-52, on Tuesday.
Johnson & Wales: 14-9, 14-3 GNAC
Norwich: 7-16, 4-12 GNAC
Anthony Jernigan (JWU): 33 points, 7 rebounds
Edson Dascy (JWU): 17 points, 5 rebounds
Jarell Lawson (JWU): 9 points, 12 rebounds
After the Wildcats ran their lead to 19 in the first half, the Cadets battled back to cut the margin to 31-20. Anthony Jernigan (East Hartford, Conn.) made a layup before half time then the Wildcats started the second half on a 13-3 run to build a 24-point lead. The lead grew to as many as 30 in the second half.
Tying his career-high was Jernigan as he led all players with 33 points to go along with seven rebounds. Edson Dascy (Fall River, Mass.) was the second Wildcat in double figures with 17 points and five rebounds. Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI) just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Wildcats tied a season-high with 13 3-pointers while shooting 50 percent (30-60) from the floor. JWU also had a 40-25 rebounding advantage as well as 28-9 points off turnovers margin.
Johnson & Wales returns home on Wednesday to take Fisher at 7 p.m.
