Wildcats Win Third-Straight, 77-54 Over Rivier

PROVIDENCE, RI – Returning home has been a good remedy for the Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team. The Wildcats won their second-straight home game and third overall with a 77-54 victory against Rivier on Saturday.  

Rivier: 1-13, 0-7 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 5-8, 5-2 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:
Michael Kiser (JWU): 18 points, 9 rebounds
Jarell Lawson (JWU): 16 points, 10 rebounds
Anthony Jernigan (JWU): 16 points, 4 steals

Of Note:
Tom Deveau made a jumper at the 9:26 mark of the first half to pull the Raiders within 22-17. Michael Kiser (Pike Road, Ala.) scored a pair of baskets during an 9-0 run to push the lead to 14 (31-17). The Wildcat advantage got as high as 36-19 in the first half on an Elijah Lewis (Bridgeport, Conn.) jumper and grew to 30, 71-41, on the Kiser jumper with five minutes remaining in the game.

Four Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Kiser's game-high 18 points. He just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Getting the double-double was Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI) with 16 points and 10 boards.  Anthony Jernigan (East Hartford, Conn.) also had 16 points. Lewis had one of his best all-around games with 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Leading the Raiders was Angel Perez and Joshua L'Heureux with eight points each. Deveau grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and scored seven points.

JWU's pressure defense caused problems for Rivier all day. The Wildcats forced the Raiders into 24 turnovers and translated that into 26 points. Johnson & Wales also had the advantage for rebounds (51-43), fast break points (16-0) and points in the paint (36-22).
