PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Alaina Nardslico put the Wildcats up 2-1 with under five minutes remaining in the second quarter to guide JWU to a 4-1 win in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon.
JWU: 2-8, 1-1 GNAC
CSC: 4-5, 2-1 GNAC
Alaina Nardslico (JWU): 2 goals
Jillian Miele (JWU): 1 goal, 1 assist
Rachel DeVore (JWU): 1 goal
After controlling possession in the attacking zone, the Chargers opened up the scoring for the day when Sarah Morin pushed one into the back of the cage.
JWU found their way in the second quarter when Nardslico tallied back-to-back goals a minute and a half apart. With the score tied, first year Mackenzie Wolf sent a pass inside that was deflected by Nardslico for what would prove to be the game-winner. Despite being outshot 6-4, the Wildcats took the 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Insurance goals came on the doorstep when Nardslico pushed a pass to the back post that McKayla Weaver connected on to extend the Wildcats lead in the third quarter. Miele slammed the door shut with just over five minutes remaining to give JWU their first conference win of the season.
JWU avenged a 2-1 OT loss last year at Colby Sawyer with help from goalkeeper Madison Flaxington. She collected 10 big saves in her second start of her career including three in each of the final two quarters.
The Wildcats return to the turf on Saturday, October 5 when they host Lasell in a GNAC match-up beginning at 1 p.m.
