PAXTON, Mass - The field hockey team put up a tough fight in the second half, but couldn't take down Anna Maria College on Saturday. The Wildcats lost a 2-1 decision to the AMCATS.
Johnson & Wales: 1-7
Anna Maria: 3-5
Calli McLaughlin (AMC): 1 goal
Anne Melanson (AMC): 1 goal
Jillian Miele (JWU): 1 goal
The AMCATS took the lead, scoring in the first 13 minutes of play when Calli McLaughlin forced the ball in the net, from a cross goal pass from Chayna Bingham-Hendricks. Anna-Marias Anne Melanson added another goal ten minutes later, from another pass from Bingham-Hendricks.
The Wildcats picked up the energy, dominating the second half, forcing nine corners and outshooting the Amcats 6-3. At the 49th minute Jillian Miele dribbled through three defenders to find the back of the net, cutting the margin to 2-1. Unfortunately the Wildcats ran out of time, and the AMCATS walked away with the win.
Goalkeeper Grace Pendergast faced six shots on goal and made four big stops, including a diving save to keep the Wildcats in the game.
The Wildcats are on the road Wednesday September 25, as they travel to Wheaton for a 4 p.m start.
