PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The field hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime before falling 3-2 to Becker in the home opener on Saturday afternoon.
Jillian Miele (JWU): 2 goals
Kylian Kelly (BC): 1 goal, 1 assist
Amy Cooper (BC): 1 goal
Jillian Miele connected in a scrum in front of the net to get Johnson & Wales on the board nine minutes into second quarter. A similar situation arose three minutes later with Miele pushing a shot into the back of the cage to give JWU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The lead was shortlived in the second half as the Hawks Kylian Kelly grabbed a goal and an assist in the third quarter to even things up a 2-2.
In the final frame, Amy Cooper saw a kick save from Wildcats goalkeeper Grace Pendergast land right on her stick and she was able to lift one to the nearpost for the eventual game-winning goal.
JWU outshot Becker 23-15 and held the advantage in corners, 15-1.
The Wildcats head out to western Massachusetts on Wednesday, September 11th for a 4:00pm game against the Westfield State Owls.
