PROVIDENCE, RI – The early firepower of visiting Salve Regina University was too much for the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to overcome on Thursday night. The Wildcats rallied for four second-half goals, but unfortunately, it was not enough to fully come back as they fell 9-4 to the Seahawks.

Salve Regina got on the board early with a goal in the third minute from Ashley Cody. The Seahawks went on to score a barrage of goals, holding a 4-0 lead at the half. Cody played a role in six out of Salve's nine goals.
The Seahawks led, 6-0, until Johnson & Wales got on the board in the 48th and 49th minutes with back-to-back goals. Adriana Scala scored on a cross-goal pass from Erin Esty. Esty kept the momentum going, scoring 47 seconds later off a pass from Natalie Rivas.
The Wildcats rallied again with another pair goals in the 64th minute of the game. Scala scored her second goal of the game with another assist from Esty. Thirty seconds later, Jillian Miele cut the lead to 9-4 with her 11th goal of the season.
The Seahawks outshot the Wildcats, 30-13.
The Wildcats return to play Saturday on the road against Rivier University at 1 pm.
